Solution

The best solution for Major League Baseball is to adopt an Olympic-type policy to finally give critics their answer. The USADA, also known as the US Anti-Doping Agency, tests all Olympic, Pan American, and Paralympic athletes. The policy that they use is a much more stringent and tougher testing policy. There is no advance warning to anyone. They test in-competition athletes by using a system that deciphers when the athlete would most likely use steroids, such as upcoming events. The USADA also tests athletes that are not currently in competition and it is based strictly on a random procedure. When an athlete is notified, they have 60 minutes to check in at the station and the athlete is accompanied at all times until the test. The sample is then sent to a World Anti-Doping Agency lab. When it arrives, the lab does not know the identification of the athlete. This would be a better solution to steroid problem because it creates no controversy in which players could possibly know when they could be tested. The USADA is very methodical in the procedures it uses. Baseball has made a greater effort to rid the game but it is easy to see that players do not take the policy in place seriously. Almost 100 athletes were suspended after Major League Baseball made a new steroids policy. The USADA has a strict policy with randomized testing policy that has worked for the Olympics, so it should be sufficient for baseball (USADA).
